Heat waves the silent killer
A report in the Financial Review by Roger Beale highlighted the number of deaths from heatwaves far outnumbered the tragic deaths caused by the bushfires on Black Saturday.
"By February 6, the morgue was full because of the spike in heat-related deaths"
The article discusses that the deaths often occur to the most vulnerable the elderly and disabled.
"..lack of access for the most vulnerable to air conditioning all contribute to unnecessary loss of life due to extreme heat."
Brisbane air conditioning provider Gary Fyvie suggests one of the best gifts you can offer the ederly is a quality air conditioning system. Gary recommends Fujitsu and Daikin systems for reliability.
"Bushfires are dramatic and dreadful, but more of us are likely to die a lonely suffocating death from cardiac arrest during a heatwave than to be killed in a fire."
